Top Factors to Consider When Choosing the Right Commercial Flooring

When decorating a commercial space, we often pay a lot of attention to the walls, the décor, the hardware and the furniture; but do you ever think about the floor? We know it’s possibly not quite as exciting as picking your new paint swatches, but it’s vital nonetheless. In fact, it can be the floor that ties the whole room together, and as we’re about to point out, you need to make sure you get things right.
Vinyl flooring
An exceptional alternative to wood flooring is vinyl flooring with a luxury finish. Vinyl gives a great look to your space without the costs associated with wood or stone, while also being incredibly easy to clean and maintain.
Carpet – wall to wall
If you’re looking for a luxury or plush feel inyour commercial space, broadloom (or wall-to-wall) carpet is a great option. It can be a little more expensive and difficult to maintain though because you can’t just spot replace stained or damaged sections – you have to replace the whole floor.
Carpet – tiles
This is a very durable and affordable method for carpeting your commercial space. It’s important to choose the right kind of carpet tiles though because a poor-quality tile will have a visible seam which will detract from the overall look and feel of your space.
You have a number of options when it comes to choosing your flooring, each with their respective pros and cons. A good place to start when selecting is by looking at the use and layout of your floor and the room you’re going to decorate.

Is Your Room Open or Closed?
When you are looking to choose new flooring, you must think about the room and how your room is divided up. For example, do you have a large open plan space, or is your facility split up into lots of different rooms?
The reason we ask this is because the space you’re looking to lay flooring in will have different noise levels depending on the layout. The flooring you choose will go a long way towards muffling noise or amplifying it, depending on the type of layout you’re working with. As a rule, sound is going to bounce more on hard surfaces, while sound is muffled with carpet. If you have an open plan space, you should choose carpet tiles which are great for absorbing sound.
How Do You Use Your Space?
Is the space you’re looking to lay flooring in an active space where people are walking around and moving, or is it a space where people are sitting a lot? The flooring you choose needs to support the people using the space, and so if you’re going to have people mainly sitting, you can afford to choose a slightly thinner carpet than if people are standing a lot.
Also, think about the fact that a hard floor will be more impactful on people’s feet and will also amplify any noise that happens.
What is your Maintenance Budget?
We recommend always building the cost of cleaning and caring for your floor into the overall cleaning budget for your business. If you have carpet, bear in mind that you’ll need to get it steam cleaned to keep it looking amazing for longer, and if you want to get the look of wood but can’t afford it, perhaps luxury vinyl is better for you. Not only is vinyl cheaper to install, but it’s also cheaper to maintain.
Whether you choose carpet or vinyl for your commercial space, you just need to make sure that you select based on the size, use and overall aesthetic that you have in place.
